`Blog Post 3: Current Event/Media Connection

On February 24, the Red Cross evacuated 27 people from a neighborhood that had been shelled. However, they were unable to rescue two wounded journalists and recover the bodies of two more that had been killed by government rockets.They are now negotiating a 2 hour ceasefire, once a day, to evacuate the wounded, for treatment, and retrieve the bodies of the recently deceased. I think this news article relates to the book Forgotten Fire in several ways. I think that the wounded or dead Syrian citizens are Vahan. I think that because the president of Syria, Bashir Assad, treats them like they are trash, much the same way as Selim Bey treats the Vahan and the other Armenians as if they were trash. In this news article, Mrs. Altoonian is the Red Cross. She was always trying to protect Vahan and she even gave him shelter and food, much like the Red Cross is doing for the Syrian citizens.
