English Blog 2: Letter
Dear Vahan,
I believe that you made the correct choice when you left the Turkish caravan after pretending to be mute so you wouldn`t be found out. Even though you were in love with the girl, you left to protect her, and yourself, no matter how hard it was to leave. In doing so you Secured her safety.
Sincerey,
Alex P

On February 24, the Red Cross evacuated 27 people from a neighborhood that had been shelled. However, they were unable to rescue two wounded journalists and recover the bodies of two more that had been killed by government rockets. They are now negotiating a 2 hour ceasefire, once a day, to evacuate the wounded, for treatment, and retrieve the bodies of the recently deceased. I think this news article relates to the book Forgotten Fire in several ways. I think that the wounded or dead Syrian citizens are Vahan. I think that because the president of Syria, Bashir Assad, treats them like they are trash, much the same way as Selim Bey treats the Vahan and the other Armenians as if they were trash. In this news article, Mrs. Altoonian is the Red Cross. She was always trying to protect Vahan and she even gave him shelter and food, much like the Red Cross is doing for the Syrian citizens.

Examples of a stage of genocide
So far in the book Forgotten Fire, I have seen at least three examples of the seventh stage of genocide: extermination. The book is about the main character, Vahan, who is an Armenian, uses his inner strength to escape the Turkish Gendarmes, which are inciting a genocide that is denied to this day. The first example is near the start of the book, Vahan and his family is brought outside of their house in the front yard. They are first questioned then the lead Gendarme dismisses them, but stops Vahan`s two older brothers, Tavel and Diran and asks them how old they are. They answer that they are both over 18, and the gendarmes lead them over to the garden wall and proceed to murder his older brothers. To make sure they are dead, the leader then shoots them each through the head and leaves. Later after that the gendarmes return and escort them to an inn. This leads to the second example, because as they leave, vahan and his family see a large mound of bodies with his recently deceased sister on top. Shortly after they leave, the third example of extermination happens. The Turkish Gendarmes lead the Armenians to a river that is stuffed with dead bodies and what water there is poisoned. They invite the Armenians to drink; the gendarmes go up behind them and shoot them through the head. Vahan`s grandmother was one of the ones that died here.

Who do you blame for the Rwandan Genocide?
I blame humanity in general, because the UN could have stopped it or at least prevented so many people from being killed. The US knew about what was happening and they could have sent troops but they didn`t because of past experiences in Africa. Also the Hutu is mostly to blame because they did the murdering.

8 stages of genocide- Extermination
The Nazi forced the Jews who could work to work until they died, and they sent the ones who couldn`t work, like the elderly, the sick, and little children, they sent to the gas chambers to be killed

Views on genocide
they have changed because i have learned that its not just mindless killing. It has a precise science behind it and is very carefully thought out
